Getting a new laptop or desktop has never been easier with the ITS Hardware Exception Process. When a new person is hired, or when new equipment is needed, either the faculty/staff or someone from their department will submit an Exception Request.
In USFSupport&Answers, click on the Service Catalog tag.
Under Desktop Computing and Printing, click on Request Equipment to access the form.
From here, simply fill out the appropriate fields and submit the form.
See? Simple!
In addition to new hires, there are several reasons why someone might need this form: equipment failure, platform change, late/early request, and loss/theft.
An Equipment Failure Request happens when your computer is not working properly. Often times, the request may be entered on behalf of the user by the Help Desk after the machine has been deemed non-functioning.
Sometimes a faculty/staff member may wish to change the type of the machine they work on. For example, they currently work on a desktop but wish to use a laptop instead or to change from a PC to a Mac. This would require a Platform Change Request.
Our computers at USF undergo a regular replacement cycle. However, someone may request a replacement out-of-cycle. If this request happens after a replacement, it is a Late Replacement Request. If it happens before a replacement, it is an Early Replacement Request.
The last type of replacement goes through Risk Management. This is either the loss or theft of a piece of equipment. USF is self-insured for these scenarios. The department may be asked to share the cost by paying the deductible.
The RP team is committed to provide up-to-date and suitable computer equipment to all our faulty and staff members in a timely and cost-efficient way. Our standard models are renewed every year with aggressive specs to accommodate most of our users and the exception process compliments this effort by providing a clear and defined process for users that have more unique and specialized requirements. ITS will continue to work towards improving the replacement and exception processes as our community continuous to grow and evolve. If you have any feedback and/or suggestions, please forward them to replacementprogram@usfca.edu. We look forward to hearing from you.
